Another great week in Kindergarten! It is so exciting to see your little ones picking up on reading, more and more each day! One of the many wonderful things about Kindergarten is seeing them grow right before our eyes. That doesn't just mean academically, but also, in growing fruits of the spirit. We love seeing your little ones grow in patience and self-control as they mature each day. Have a blessed week!

Math

Objectives:

1. To be able to find the total for two given sets.

2. To begin an understanding of what numbers represent.

3. To be able to compose and decompose numbers in different ways (number bonds).

Please continue working with your child on identifying numbers 1-20. They need to be able to write them correctly and also understand what each number really means (tens and ones).
This week we begin number bonds. Number bonds are a way to represent parts of a whole number. This involves composing and decomposing numbers (6 is made of 4 and 2; 2 and 4 make 6); which is a crucial component to developing number sense!
Please complete the "Introduction" at the bottom of the workbook pages assigned. This is an important step. Following the concrete-pictorial-abstract sequence is very important in Singapore math.

Reading

Objectives:

1. To begin reading and accurately blending words and sentences that begin or end with sh and shr.

This week we are reading words with the the digraph SH, SHR

Writing

Objectives:

1. To be able to form all upper case letters properly on handwriting lines.

2. To be able to form all lower case letters properly on handwriting lines.

3. To be able to write first and last name properly on handwriting lines.

4. To be able to accurately copy a sentence (using handwriting lines) correctly.

We are continuing copywork through oral narration in class. Please revisit last week's blog if you need a reminder of what that means. Please feel free to add this activity to your homeschool day as well as after you read the Bible lesson or a read aloud book.

Spelling

1. To be able to write short vowel a,e, i, o, and u. (CVC) words from dictation.

2. To be able to spell words using the two sounds of "s".

Please go over yellow phonogram cards (name and sound of each letter) daily as well as blue key cards 1-6. Please review syllables.
THURSDAY- Introduce "Step" and do lesson up to and including"Spell with Tiles."
TUESDAY: Finish the lesson including "Spell on Paper"- Dictate the 10 words for your child to write in Spelling Journal. Practice "More Words" at home on dry erase board or journal. Please make sure to reinforce proper letter formation and writing correctly on the lined pages in the journal.
****Spelling Journals will need to come to school every school day so I can check them !(Bring every day- Blue folder, Math book, Math Journal, Spelling Journal)

History

We hope you had a restful break full of family time and beautiful memories. We are excited to jump back into learning this week and will pray for a smooth transition back to homeschooling for everyone this week.

*We have added our third poem for memorization. It's a beautiful one! Take a moment to really discuss with your child the meaning of the melodious words. We will be doing this one is song form. Here is a link to a version of the song; however, we do not sing it this high!

All Things Bright and Beautiful

Math

Objectives:

1. To be able to identify "how many more/less" a group has compared to the reference set.

2. To identify and name numbers 11-20. To be able to order numbers 1-20.

3. To gain an understanding of tens and ones in a numeral.

This week we are focusing on numbers to 20; identifying them and putting them in order. We will be reviewing before and after with numbers (ex: What number is 1 more than 15? What number comes before 18?). We are also continuing to build understanding of tens and ones (ex: 17 is 10 and 7 more).

Reading

Objectives:
1. To read and accurately blend words that end with consonant blend "nk".

2. To begin reading and accurately blending words and sentences that end with dipthong ng.

We will be spending all week on lesson 54. Please make sure to do this lesson each day (or part of the lesson) as well as reviewing previous lessons.

Writing

Objectives:

1. To be able to form all upper case letters properly on handwriting lines.
2. To be able to form all lower case letters properly on handwriting lines.

3. To be able to write first and last name properly on handwriting lines.

Copywork through oral narration was introduced in class before the break and will continue throughout the rest of the year. All narrations will be done in the spelling journal behind the tab. This means that we read a quality book and then discuss what students can remember about the book using complete sentences. Asking questions such as, "What happened at the beginning?" "What was your favorite part of the book?" "What happened at the end?". Also asking open ended questions like, "Why do you think _____ did or acted a certain way?" "Were any of the characters showing any of the fruits of the spirit?". After the discussion, we will ask the students to tell us a complete sentence about something they can remember from the story. We pick one sentence about the book to write (keeping it short and using simple words if possible). We write the sentence on the board, modeling aloud the writing process and getting them to help us with any skills they should already know. The student will then copy the sentence in their journal. We will gently correct handwriting, spelling errors, and spacing issues as appropriate. ***Feel free to practice this at home, it is not mandatory for home yet, but certainly helpful (and enjoyable!)

Continue to work on first and last name with proper capitalization as well as writing upper and lowercase alphabet correctly on lined paper.

3. To begin learning to draw the world map by drawing a compass rose, equator, and prime meridian.

Due 1/13 Students will be required to sing the names of the States only. However, we will be pointing at them on the US map at school and you are welcome to print the map and do so as well. Click here for the Geography songs for the year.

Kinder week 17 12/7-12/11

What a wonderful blessing that we can continue reading and talking about the reason and meaning of Christmas in class this week. We pray that your Christmas is filled with the joy that is brought through knowing that He came for us! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful and precious children with us. We love each one of them and will miss their smiling faces in the coming weeks. Snuggle them, love them, and enjoy this wonderful season with them. See you next year :)

It is a busy week! Please remember to send a wrapped, classically appropriate, new or gently used, gender neutral book by Wednesday.

Our 4 week break is wonderful, but also a long time to not do school work. In order to avoid any regression, you will definitely want to make sure your kiddo reads to you, reviews phonograms, and reviews some math concepts. Please use the word fans sent home last week as well as the poem copywork emailed to you last week to help review. You've worked hard to get this far! Don't lose all the fruits of that investment!

Math

Objectives:

1. To be able to identify "how many more/less" a group has compared to the reference set.

2. To identify and name numbers 11-20
3. To make a group of tens within a set and count the leftovers to find a number.

4. To understand that numbers higher than 9 consist of tens and ones, and identify each quantity.

This week we are talking about tens and ones. When discussing numbers greater than 9, we learn that our numbers follow a pattern in the base 10 number system and have place value. That 1 in 12 is not just a 1; its value is 10. So, when we discuss teen numbers this week, we will be emphasizing "ten and 2" make 12.

Reading

Objectives:

1. To read and accurately blend words that end with consonant blend "nk".

2. To begin reading and accurately blending words with beginning blends.

We are spending this week on Lesson 53. Please make sure that you are reviewing previous lessons. Initial blends can take a bit longer to master.

Writing

Objectives:

1. To be able to form all upper case letters properly on handwriting lines.

2. To be able to form all lower case letters properly on handwriting lines.

3. To be able to write name properly using only 1 capital letter.

4. To begin writing last name properly on handwriting lines.
