  • "ank" and "ink" blends are difficult because the vowel's sound is different.  It may be helpful to add "ank" and "ink" as additional phonograms to your phonogram review.
  • Many students are still struggling with "an" and "am" words as well so adding these to your phonogram review time would be helpful as well.

Have them number their words so that they are practicing number formation as well. Practice "More Words" at home on dry erase board or journal. Please make sure to reinforce proper letter formation and writing correctly on the lined pages in the journal.
  • Spelling journal process:
    • Top line:  Step/Lesson #
    • Next line:  Have your child write their name properly.
    • Child numbers the lines 1-10 using proper number formation.
    • Read each word to your child and have them write it.  Please do not segment or sound out the word for you child, instead encourage them to segment the word and write what sounds he/she hears.
    • Point to the incorrectly spelled words and see if they can figure out what they did wrong (we are looking for spelling errors as well as letter formation errors).  Let them rewrite the word correctly using a crayon or colored pencil instead of allowing them to erase their mistakes.
