Another great week in Kindergarten!  It is so exciting to see your little ones picking up on reading, more and more each day! One of the many wonderful things about Kindergarten is seeing them grow right before my eyes. That doesn't just mean academically, but also, in growing fruits of the spirit. I love seeing our little ones grow in patience and self-control as they mature each day. Have a blessed week!


Math 
Objectives:
1.  To be able to find the total for two given sets.
2.  To begin an understanding of what numbers represent.
3.  To be able to compose and decompose numbers in different ways (number bonds).
  • Please continue working with your child on identifying numbers 1-20. They need to be able to write them correctly and also understand what each number really means (tens and ones).
  • This week we begin number bonds. Number bonds are a way to represent parts of a whole number. This involves composing and decomposing numbers (6 is made of 4 and 2; 2 and 4 make 6); which is a crucial component to developing number sense!
  • Please complete the "Introduction" at the bottom of the workbook pages assigned. This is an important step.  Following the concrete-pictorial-abstract  sequence is very important in Singapore math.
Reading
Objectives:
1.  To begin reading and accurately blending words and sentences that begin or end with sh and shr.
  • This week we are reading words with the the digraph SH, SHR
Writing 

Objectives:
1. To  be able to form all upper case letters properly on handwriting lines.
2. To be able to form all lower case letters properly on handwriting lines.

3. To be able to  write first and last name properly on handwriting lines.
4. To be able to accurately copy a sentence (using handwriting lines) correctly.
  • We are continuing copywork through oral narration in class. Please revisit last week's blog if you need a reminder of what that means.  Please feel free to add this activity to your homeschool day as well after you read the Bible lesson or a read aloud book.
Spelling

1. To be able to write short vowel a,e,  i, o, and u. (CVC) words from dictation.
2.  To be able to spell words using the two sounds of "s".
  • Please go over yellow phonogram cards (name and sound of each letter) daily as well as blue key cards 1-6. Please review syllables.
  • THURSDAY- Introduce "Step" and do lesson up to and including"Spell with Tiles."
    TUESDAY: Finish the lesson including "Spell on Paper"- Dictate the 10 words for your child to write in Spelling Journal. Practice "More Words" at home on dry erase board or journal. Please make sure to reinforce proper letter formation and writing correctly on the lined pages in the journal.
  • ****Spelling Journals will need to come to school every school day so I can check them!(Bring every day- Blue folder, Math book, Math Journal, Spelling Journal)
History 
Objectives:
1. To be able to describe key events in the Bible and to learn from them.

2.  To see God's hand in every event.

Science
Objectives:
1. To be able to see God's provision for his creation in the weather.
2.  To understand why we have different types of weather.

This week we will be studying clouds and what the clouds can tell us about the weather.  We will also try to identify the types of clouds we see each day.


Geography
Objectives:
1. To be able to recite the eastern states of the US on a map. MONDAY! :)
2.  To be able to sing the names of the middle states of the US.
3. To begin learning to draw the world map.

Memory Work
Objectives:
1. To memorize "true, good, and beautiful" pieces and recite to the class.

2.  Memorize the discipleship word and verse for the month of January:  Deuteronomy 31:8 (Courage)
  • Please take a few minutes each homeschool day to review memory work! (Poem, Deuteronomy 31:8, Geography song, Timeline song)
