Wow! It is hard to believe it is almost time for Thanksgiving break. There is so very much to be thankful for this year, including your precious children and wonderful partnership. I am so very blessed by you!
I hope to see many of you on Wednesday for our Thanksgiving program and dessert social. We pray that you will have a restful and refreshing Thanksgiving break with your families.

Math 
Objectives: to compare sets of objects and be able to make a set with one more or one less; to look at numerals and be able to tell/write the numeral that is one more/one less.
  • We started Essentials book B today. Please remember to send it every school day.
Reading
Objectives: to begin reading and accurately blending words that begin with consonant blends.
  • We are venturing into beginning blends and your kiddos are ready!! 
  • Lesson 50 introduces the sight word of. Kindergarten students now have 4 sight words: a, I, the, of. Our list of sight words will grow as we progress through the book. OPG is a phonics based reading program and we only introduce true sight words (words that do not follow rules and cannot be sounded out) and some high frequency words that children will encounter prior to learning the rule which will help them decode.
Writing 
Objectives: To write the capital letters and lower case letters correctly (typically top to bottom/left to right) on handwriting paper; to write first and last names correctly on handwriting paper.
  • Continue to work on first and last name with proper capitalization as well as writing upper and lowercase alphabet correctly on lined paper.
Spelling
Objectives:  To be able to write short vowel/CVC words from dictation. This week focuses on short i.
  • THURSDAY- Introduce "Step" and do lesson up to and including"Spell with Tiles."
    TUESDAY: Finish the lesson including "Spell on Paper"- Dictate the 10 words for your child to write in Spelling Journal. Practice "More Words" at home on dry erase board or journal. Please make sure to reinforce proper letter formation and writing correctly on the lined pages in the journal.
  • ****Spelling Journals will need to come to school every school day so I can check them!(Bring every day- Blue folder, Math book, Math Journal, Spelling Journal)
History 
Objectives: to gain an understanding that history began with God and creation; to see God's hand in every event.
  • This week we are discussing Boniface and knights.
Science
Objectives: to be able to classify vertebrate animals into 5 categories (mammals, reptiles, fish, amphibians, and birds); to identify habitats and explain why that habitat is suitable.
  • To review the different animal classifications, you will be reading your 2 science readers this week.
  • This week we are beginning our study of animal habitats (arctic, desert, grassland, rainforest, ocean) 
Geography
Objectives: to identify and name the Continents and Oceans on a map; to sing the names of  the Eastern United States.
  •  Due 1/08. Students will be required to sing the names of the States only. However, we will be pointing at them on the US map at school and you are welcome to print the map and do so as well. Click here for the Geography songs for the year.
Memory Work
Objectives: To memorize "true, good, and beautiful" pieces and recite to the class.
  • Please take a few minutes each homeschool day to review memory work! (Poem, Matthew verses, Geography song, Timeline song)
