Math
Objectives: to compare sets (using different strategies) to determine which set has more or less; to create a set that has more /less than the given set; to demonstrate understanding of 1-1 correspondence.
  • We will be moving into Essential Math book B next Monday, November 17th. Please make sure that you send book B to school on Monday with your child. We will be doing page 1 in class that day!
  • Math buddies log-in
Reading
Objectives: to begin reading and accurately blending words and sentences that begin with consonant blends.
  • You will note that we are spending this whole week on lesson 52. Beginning blends, especially r blends, can take a little longer for students to master. Please make sure that you give this lesson full attention each day, even though we are spending a whole week on it. It can be quite common for students (and adults!) to miss the pronunciation of r blends. A common mistake that we will be working on clarifying is the tr blend. This blend is often mistakenly pronounced as chr. It is especially important to pay attention to mouth and tongue placement during this lesson!
  •  Here is a helpful video for parents to help correct these common errors: http://www.rachelsenglish.com/videos/tr-dr-and-str
  • This video will help parents help students practice and fix any errors they might encounter with the r: http://www.rachelsenglish.com/videos/holding-out-r
Composition (see table)
Objectives: To write the capital letters and lower case letters correctly (typically top to bottom/left to right) on handwriting paper; to write first and last names correctly on handwriting paper.
  • Continue to work on first and last name with proper capitalization as well as writing upper and lowercase alphabet correctly on lined paper.

Spelling
Objectives:  To be able to write short vowel/CVC words from dictation. This week focuses on short a.
  • Every Thursday, you will do the lesson up to and including "Spell with Tiles". Every Tuesday, you will finish the lesson, and dictate the 10 words for your child to write on manuscript paper. Please make sure to put the paper from 'Spell on Paper' in the green folder, so that we can check it every Wednesday. Paper used for spelling in kindergarten should be manuscript lined paper (with a top, mid, and bottom line) to reinforce proper letter formation.
  • Here are some fun short a games your child may enjoy playing on the computer:

History
Objectives: to gain an understanding that history began with God and creation; to see God's hand in every event.
  • This week we will begin our study of the spread of the church and Augustine, Patrick, and Boniface. God used some great, Christ loving Bible teachers to spread the Gospel across the world.
  • Creation song for the semester: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoehyq6X650

Geography
Objectives: to identify and name the continents and oceans on a map; to sing the names of the countries in Central America, and to learn different ways to pray for those countries.

Belize and Salvador, Honduras, Panama
Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica too!
These are the countries of Central America
Caribbean on the east , Pacific on the west
    Science
