Please join us for our monthly "Co-Teacher" (aka: Parents) Training session THIS Wednesday, November 13, 2019 from 9-10 am in the sanctuary. The session will be presented by Carol Brazill (Professional Development Coordinator) and Kristi Martin (Team Coordinator/Academic Support Coordinator). We will be discussing the importance of summarizing and how to use this skill across different subjects. Summarizing can be used as early as Preschool and can help students of all ages. Math 
Objectives: 
1.  To recognize and match equal sets.
2.  To demonstrate understanding of 1-1 correspondence.
3. To compare sets (using different strategies) to determine which set has more or less

  • We will be moving into Essential Math book B next Monday, November 18th. Please make sure that you send book B to school on Monday with your child. We will be doing page 1 in class that day!
Reading
Objectives: 
1.  To be able to read and accurately blend words that end with a two consonant blend.
2.  To read and accurately blend words that end with consonant blend "nk".
3.  To learn the meaning of the words "singular" and "plural"
4.  To understand that words can be made plural by adding "s" to the ending.
5.  To begin reading and accurately blending words with beginning blends.

Writing 
Objectives:
1. To  be able to form all upper case letters properly on handwriting lines. 
2. To be able to form all lower case letters properly on handwriting lines.
3. To be able to write name properly using only 1 capital letter.
4. To be able to write the alphabet on handwriting paper from memory.
  • Continue to work on first  name with proper capitalization as well as writing upper and lowercase alphabet correctly on lined paper.  If your student has mastered their first name you can introduce how to write their last name properly.  Starting in January we will all be writing first and last name as much as possible.
Spelling
Objectives: 
1.  To be able to choose the correct short vowel sound when heard in a word.
2. To be able to write short vowel a  (CVC) words from dictation.
  • THURSDAY- Introduce "Step" and do lesson up to and including "Spell with Tiles."
    TUESDAY: Finish the lesson including "Spell on Paper"- Dictate (read) the 10 words for your child to write in Spelling Journal. Practice "More Words" at home on dry erase board or journal. Please make sure to reinforce proper letter formation and writing correctly on the lined pages in the journal.
  • ****Spelling Journals will need to come to school every school day so I can check them!(Bring every day- Blue folder, Math book, Math Journal, Spelling Journal)

    • This week we are working on capacity and equal sets. The equal sets lesson is a great footing for your child to understand that equal means 'the same as' and not 'the answer is'. Please make sure to provide the hands-on capacity lessons at the bottom of the page for Tuesday.
    Reading
    Objectives: 
    1.  To be able to read sentences with current sight words and CVC words.
    2.  To be able to read and accurately blend words that end with a two consonant blend.

      3.  To understand that every word has at least one vowel.
      • Now that we have emergent readers, our explicit spelling instruction has started! Please follow the break-up of the lesson on the table. 
      • You should have introduced blue key card #3 last Thursday and will introduce key card #4 this Tuesday. Practice blue key cards along with phonogram cards daily.
      • The format of lessons will remain the same (starting with Step 6):  Every Thursday the new "Step" will be introduced at home and we will work on it for a week. Spelling Journals  will start coming home this week.

      2.  To measure objects using non-standard units of measurement.
      3.  To understand the concept of big and small and sort objects by size
      4.  To compare weight using a balance
      5.  To compare the weight of objects by making direct comparison to a reference weight.
      • This week we are working on size and weight. We will be doing hands-on weight activities with a balance at school. Your child will be learning how to use a balance. This experience will provide the background they need for page 136. 
      • Please note that the page assignments are out of order this week due to the hands-on weighing. Please pay close attention to the assigned pages for each day.
      Reading
      Objectives: 
      1.  To be able to read sentences with current sight words and CVC words.
      2.  To be able to read and accurately blend words that end with a two consonant blend.
      • Please encourage your child to point to the words (track text) as he reads.

      • THIS THURSDAY we will pick up AAS where we left off. Please make sure that you have all the materials necessary and that you review Steps 1-4 to ensure readiness.  
      • Every daily lesson should include review of phonograms (yellow cards) and key cards (blue cards).
      • This week (Step 5) is a bit different from the rest of the steps. Pages 33-35 will be done Thursday and pages 36-37 will be done the following Tuesday. 
      • The format of lessons will remain the same (starting with Step 6):  Every Thursday the new "Step" will be introduced at home and we will work on it for a week. Spelling Journals  will start coming home when "Step 6" is introduced.

      • "Two Review and One New" on page 92 will be a part of every lesson. Please make sure that you include this in your daily lesson every time.

      Objectives: 
      1. To be able to hold a pencil using proper pencil grip.
      2 To  be able to form all upper case letters properly on handwriting lines. 
      3. To be able to form all lower case letters properly on handwriting lines.
      4. To be able to write name properly using only 1 capital letter.

      • Remember to continue handwriting practice on lined handwriting paper as well as HWT book.

      Spelling
      Objectives: 
      1. To be able to write the correct phonogram when given the phonogram sounds.
      2  To be able to segment 2 and 3 sound words.
      3.  To be able to blend sounds together to figure out the given word.

      • Please assess your child on the 26 single letter phonograms using the form in your child's folder or it can be found hereShow them the phonogram card and mark which phonograms they have not mastered (they must know all of the sounds not just one to show mastery).  You will only be doing Assessment 1 at this time.  Return the assessment on Wednesday.
      • We will pick up with AAS step 5 the last week of October. For now, continue to review steps 1-4. Every daily lesson should include review of phonograms (yellow cards) and key cards (blue cards).
