Math 
Objectives: 
1.  To understand the concept of capacity.
2.  To recognize and match equal sets.
3.  To demonstrate understanding of 1-1 correspondence.
  • This week we are working on capacity and equal sets. The equal sets lesson is a great footing for your child to understand that equal means 'the same as' and not 'the answer is'. Please make sure to provide the hands-on capacity lessons at the bottom of the page for Wednesday.
Reading
Objectives: 
1.  To be able to read sentences with current sight words and CVC words.
2.  To be able to read and accurately blend words that end with a two consonant blend.

*Please note that there is a lesson assigned for Friday and another lesson assigned for Monday

Writing 
Objectives:
1. To  be able to form all upper case letters properly on handwriting lines. 
2. To be able to form all lower case letters properly on handwriting lines.
3. To be able to write name properly using only 1 capital letter.
4. To be able to write the alphabet on handwriting paper from memory.
  • Remember to continue handwriting practice on lined handwriting paper as well as HWT book.  
  • Have your child practice writing his/her name properly on handwriting lines using well formed lower case letters.
    Spelling
    Objectives: 
    1. To be able to alphabetize letter tiles.
    2  To be able to choose the correct short vowel sound when heard in a word.
    3.  To understand that every word has at least one vowel.
    • Now that we have emergent readers, our explicit spelling instruction has started! Please follow the break-up of the lesson on the table. 
    • You should have introduced blue rule card #2 last Friday. Practice blue rule cards along with phonogram cards daily.
    • The format of lessons will remain the same (starting with Lesson 7):  Every Friday the new "Lesson" will be introduced at home and together we will work on it for a week. Spelling Journals  will come home on Thursday (but will not be used until next Wednesday).
      FRIDAY- Introduce the lesson and do up to and including "Spell word cards with Letter Tiles."
      WEDNESDAY: Finish the lesson including "Spell on Paper"- Dictate (call out) the 10 words for your child to write in Spelling Journal. Practice "More Words" at home on dry erase board or in journal. Please make sure to reinforce proper letter formation and writing correctly on the lined pages in the journal.  An example of how the spelling journal entry should look is on the inside front cover.  I would like for them to practice writing their name and numbering their paper each week.  Once they have written all of the words have them correct their spelling mistakes using a pen/crayon/marker.  Please do not let them erase their mistakes.  
    • ****Spelling Journals will need to come to school every school day so we can check them! (Bring every day- Blue folder, Math book, Math Journal, Spelling Journal

    Science
    Objectives: 
    1. To be able to name all 8 planets in order. (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune)
    2. To be able to give characteristics of each planet

    **Look for the information about the planets project in your child's folder after school on Thursday. Please spend some time next week researching some fun facts about the assigned planet and start planning how you are going to create your 3D model.


    Geography
    Objectives: 
    1. To be able to point to and say the northern states of the US on a map.
    2. To begin learning to draw the world map by drawing a compass rose, equator, and prime meridian.
    •  Due Tuesday. Students will be required to sing the names of the States only. However, we will be pointing at them on the US map at school and you are welcome to print the map and do so as well. Click here for the Geography songs for the year.
    Memory Work
    • Please take a few minutes each homeschool day to review memory work! (Poem, Geography song)
    • Our poem, Hymn Of Joy will be assessed on 12/2.

    Math 
    Objectives: 
    1.  To compare the length of objects by making direct comparisons with reference objects
    2.  To measure objects using non-standard units of measurement.
    3.  To understand the concept of big and small and sort objects by size
    4.  To compare weight using a balance
    5.  To compare the weight of objects by making direct comparison to a reference weight.
    • This week we are working on size and weight. We will be doing hands-on weight activities with a balance at school. Your child will be learning how to use a balance. This experience will provide the background they need for page 136. 
    • Please note that the page assignments are out of order this week due to the hands-on weighing. Please pay close attention to the assigned pages for each day.
    Reading
    Objectives: 
    1.  To be able to read sentences with current sight words and CVC words.
    2.  To be able to read and accurately blend words that end with a two consonant blend.
    • Please encourage your child to point to the words (track text) as he/she reads. 
    Writing 
    1. To  be able to form all upper case letters properly on handwriting lines. 
    2. To be able to form all lower case letters properly on handwriting lines.
    3. To be able to write name properly using only 1 capital letter.
    4. To be able to write the alphabet on handwriting paper from memory.
    • Remember to continue handwriting practice on lined handwriting paper as well as HWT book.  
    • Have your child practice writing his/her name properly on handwriting lines. Have them correct any lowercase letter that we have already introduced through the Handwriting Without Tears book, many children will have bad habits that will need to be broken. 
    Spelling.
    Objectives: 
    1. To be able to write the 26 phonograms from dictation.
    2  To be able to segment 2 and 3 sound words.
    3.  To be able to orally blend single phonemes into CVC words fluently.
    • THIS FRIDAY we will pick up AAS where we left off. Please make sure that you have all the materials necessary and that you review Lessons 1-5 to ensure readiness.  
    • Every daily lesson should include review of phonograms (yellow cards), a selection of sound cards (red cards),  and rule cards (blue cards).
    • This week (Lesson 6) is a bit different from the rest of the lessons. Pages 69-74 will be done Friday and pages 75-76 will be done the following Wednesday. 
    • The format of lessons will remain the same (starting with Lesson 7):  Every Friday the new "Lesson" will be introduced at home and we will work on it for a week. Spelling Journals  will start coming home when "Lesson 7" is introduced. 
      FRIDAY- Introduce "Lesson" and do lesson up through "Spell word cards with letter tiles".
      WEDNESDAY: Review yellow, red, and blue cards.  Start at the "Spell on Paper" section and continue through the end of the lesson- You will be dictating the 10 words for your child to write in Spelling Journal when doing the "spell on paper" section.     By this time in our parenting journey, we all know the important role the family plays in our children's respectful obedience.  As homeschooling mommas, we have the added benefit of observing the true hearts of our children in the comfort of our homes on a regular basis and are well acquainted with their discipline needs, but we still benefit from motivational reminders of what our goals in this area include.  Here are some links you may enjoy.  Happy Parenting!

    • This week we are working on length using non-standard units (ex:paper clips, unifix cubes, etc). *Please give your child some hands-on practice measuring things at home with non-standard units. Refer to the bottom of the workbook pages for activities.
    • HERE is a link to some printable ten frames to start practicing recognizing teen numbers. Let your student count the dots several times, then show them that they can count on from 10 to make it faster.  

    Reading

    Objectives: 
    1.  To be able to read sentences with current sight words and CVC words.
    2.  To be able to read and accurately blend words that end in a double consonant (ss,ff,ll)
    3.  To read and accurately blend words that end with "ck"
    4.  To be able to recognize and produce rhyming words.
    • "Two Review and One New" will be a part of every lesson. Please make sure that you include this in your daily lesson every time.
    • HERE is a copy of the hand motions that we use in class to help remember the vowel sounds.
    Writing 
    Objectives: 
    1. To be able to hold a pencil using proper pencil grip.
    2 To  be able to form all upper case letters properly on handwriting lines. 
    3. To be able to form all lower case letters properly on handwriting lines.
    4. To be able to write name properly using only 1 capital letter.
    5. To be able to write the alphabet on handwriting paper from memory.

    • Remember to continue handwriting practice on lined handwriting paper as well as HWT book.

    Spelling

    1. To be able to write the correct phonogram when given the phonogram sounds.
    2  To be able to segment 2 and 3 sound words.
    3.  To be able to blend sounds together to figure out the given word.


    • Please assess your child on the 26 single letter phonograms using the form in your child's folder or it can be found hereShow them the phonogram card and mark which phonograms they have not mastered (they must know all of the sounds not just one to show mastery).  You will only be doing Assessment 1 at this time.  Return the assessment on Thursday.
    • We will pick up with AAS lesson 6 the last week of October.  For now, continue to review lessons 1-5. Every daily lesson should include review of phonograms (yellow cards) and key cards (blue cards)
